For 2001, Suzuki introduced the GSX-R models that replace the largest and most powerful models of the GSX-R sport bike series, the GSX-R1100, with the all new GSX-R1000. As the model name reveals, the engine cylinder displacement of about 1,000 cc (61 cu in), about 100 cc smaller than its predecessor. GSX-R1000 is not just a big version of the GSX-R750, although it shares many features with its sister. The main frame is the same in both models, but the materials used on the older brother is .5 mm (0.020 in) thick. Suzuki claimed the torsional rigidity of the frame increased 10% compared with the GSX-R750.
